Calafell, 21/08/1948-15/01/2023
Prof. Josep Guasch y Torres participated proactively in university management since 1978, holding numerous academic positions that were key in the creation and configuration of our University.
He combined this intense management activity with that of principal investigator of different research projects, being the promoter and driver of the lines of research related to Chemistry and Enological Chemical Analysis at our University. So much so that, in 1992, he created his own Research Group of Enological and Food Analytical Chemistry (QAea): a research group consolidated and recognized at state level, and which was the embryo of the groups that currently continue to work in this field at the URV.
It was a pioneer in the teaching of Chemistry and Oenological Analysis in Catalonia and one of the first teachers of this discipline all over Spain. His concern for improving the quality of university education in this field led him to be one of the driving forces behind these studies in Spain and to found in 1993, with other Spanish scientists, the Association 'Grupos de Investigación en Enología (GIENOL)', of which he was a member of the Board of Directors until 2021, when he was named Honorary Member.
